The Switch has a lot going for it, but one massive oversight seems to be the system's fairly limited hard drive space for saving games. It maxes out at just 32GB, and when you consider that this number also includes the operating system, you really only have about 25GB of space. While most games shouldn't give you much of a problem, some titles can eat quickly up all your space.
Many third-party releases can take up half the capacity of the system. A game like Dragon Quest Heroes, for instance, takes up the full 32GB of storage. You could go the physical cartridge route, but not all games are available that way due to space constraints.
So how can you play a decent number of games without running out of space, especially since Nintendo incentivizes digital downloads? One easy solution is to archive the games you are no longer playing. You have probably played through Super Mario Odyssey by now, so why not archive it, which will remove the game data from your console while still retaining your save files.
There are a few ways to archive a game. If you're on the main menu, highlight a game and press the "+" button, then select Manage Software > Archive Software from the drop-down. You can also do it in System Settings > Data Management, then select between Quick Archive and Manage Software.
Quick Archive will show which games you have played least and take up the most space. Manage Software will take you to a list of games on your system that you can click into and manage individually.
By archiving a game, it will remain on the menu screen for easy access without taking space on your console. If you ever want to play again, just re-download the game.
The only other thing you can do about save data is to house games on a microSD card.
